A very large geyser. I took this photo many years ago (1973?); it is a scan of a print made from a duplicate of a slide, which accounts for its graininess and lack of color. I like it anyway. I think all the geysers were better that year than this year; in 1999 none of the geysers were at their best.
I didn't keep track of the names or specific locations of any of the pools, pots, or other geysers, so I'll just talk about them in a general way, if at all. It's the photos which are interesting anyway, not the chatter.
Still another pool; I think this one is in the Old Faithful area. The color of the pools is caused by the organisms which live in it, plus the color of the sky. Some are very colorful, some not. They are hot. I heard about a child, uncontrolled by his parents, jumping into one and dying a horrible death a few years ago.
Autumn in the Geyser Basin.
I love this picture. So typical of Yellowstone in the fall, with colorful foliage in the foreground and rising steam in the background.
