Mount Rushmore National Memorial
Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln
My photo of Mount Rushmore is about the same as everybody else's. At the time I visited here, in 1978 I think, this was about the only place you could take a photo from. I read that now they have completed a new visitor center and a trail up to the faces. (I think there had been one previously, but it was closed when I was there.)
Anyway, I was quite impressed with the memorial as a whole, with the flag-lined walkway, the visitor center, and of course the main feature. It made me think what a great country this is. I have found out later that many Native Americans, however, feel that the memorial is a desecration of a place which was sacred to them, and was established intentionally as a humiliating gesture. They have a point.
