The Kirtland Ohio Temple

Kirtland Ohio Temple

The Kirtland Temple was built in 1834 by "The Church of the Latter Day Saints." It is presently owned by the Community of Christ, formerly known as the "Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints."

Inside the building is very plain; it was designed so that it could be divided into four sections, each with a dias at one end. It has always been used for meetings, except that for the last few years it is more a Mormon shrine. The building is treated with utmost respect by all followers of Joseph Smith.

Photos are not allowed inside the building; however, this exterior shot of a window is a good example of the artistry and craftsmanship of the early Mormons.
