Take the Starvation Creek State Park exit off I-84 if you are heading east, or Exit 51 if you are heading west. Probably the first thing you'll see is this shady spot just off the parking lot.

Then head up the trail toward Viento. After a few hundred feet, a sign directs you to a picnic area and viewpoint, off to the right. Take that. A short distance further, you come to the picnic tables. Look upstream, way up high, and you'll see this:

Oh, wow! What a view! But it's kind of small. Binoculars or a telephoto are needed to really see the beauty of the scene. So here are some telephoto shots for your edification and enrichment.

I guess I should tell you how Starvation Creek got its name. Actually, there are different stories. Here's the one I like. In December of 1884 two trains got snowbound at this location. They had plenty to eat and drink on the trains, so they decided to party until help came, which it did a few days later. They laughingly referred to the event as "Starveout," which later became "Starvation."
