Bonneville Dam: Washington Side
Bonneville Dam was constructed in the late 1930s as a flood control and hydroelectric facility. It has been doing its job pretty well for over sixty years now. It is really three dams divided by two islands. The rest of the photos on this page are of the dam on the left, the one on the Washington side of the Columbia.
Closer up on the Washington side, still looking east. There are nice visitor centers on both sides of the dam; the Oregon one is larger and has more features, but you really need to visit them both.
Dams are hard on fish, but these seem to be doing OK. They are heading upstream on the final leg of their life's journey. These are three or four feet long.
