I really was a soldier. This proves it. This photo was taken at the Bordeaux Air Base in France. We lived in these little "hutments," which were not really buildings; they were wooden at the bottom, and tents at the top. Hot in summer and freezing in winter. Regardless, I found my two years in the army to be a godsend. Much of it was very interesting. I traveled in France, Germany, and the UK a lot, and enjoyed that. I achieved the rank of corporal, or maybe it was Specialist 2, or something.

The best thing about military service was getting the GI Bill, which allowed me to go to college.
