Horsethief Lake State Park
Renamed "Columbia Hills State Park" in 2003

Horsethief Lake State Park
They renamed Horsethief Lake State Park Columbia Hills State Park in 2003 but some of the signs still say Horsethief. I prefer Horsethief, myself. Actually, the lake in Horsethief isn't really a lake, but an impoundment of the Columbia River behind a railroad causeway. And I didn't see any horsethieves, but then I guess you wouldn't.

Petroglyph on display

The main attraction here is a display of petroglyphs rescued from the lower cliffs when The Dalles dam was built. The display is easy to access and quite extensive; I'm only showing you two samples here.

These images were made by the people who lived here many years ago; the natives lived in a village here for hundreds and hundreds of years.
Petroglyph on display
There is a guided tour which goes along a trail, which might be very interesting. Reservations are needed for that.
