Monday, February 26, 1979, just south of The Dalles, Oregon:
It was raining before dawn, but after the sun came up it shone occasionally between the clouds. As the morning wore on, we could see the bite out of the sun grow larger.
Just a few minutes before totality, the sky cleared. I guess whatever gods may be were with us. It started raining again a few minutes afterwards.
