YOUTH DIAGNOSTIC CENTER: Served as a Primary and Skill Builder for a variety of youth ages 0-18 in a residential setting. took youth on outings and maintained a household. Taught youth boundaries and enforced program rules. Facilitated groups and provided individual skill building. Employed a variety of techniques to assist youth in resolving interpersonal conflict and assist youth with coping skills. November 1995—November 1997.
FAMILY FRIENDS DAY TREATMENT: Served as the on-call Milieu Treatment Specialist. worked with children ages 3-12 in a behavior treatment facility. Supervised children with peers and assisted with school activities on site. Provided structure and helped children learn boundaries and appropriate behavior. September 1996—November 1996. DUNN HOUSE: Provide peer counseling for battered women and children. Educated clients on domestic violence and sexual abuse. Screened prospective clients and completed intakes and evaluations. Assisted Spanish speaking clients; spent time with children. June 1966—October 1966. HELPLINE: Provided peer counseling and support services for clients in crises such as suicide, depression, domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault, death, grief, etc. Assisted clients with self empowerment to facilitate problem solving. Provided information and referral services. January 1996—June 1996. WINTERSPRING: Helped facilitate groups for children who have experienced the death of a loved one. Through active listening, reflecting play, sand tray activities, art projects, and group activities, helped provide a safe place for children to experience their grief. September 1995—June 1996. PUBLIC SPEAKING: Worked with PFLAG and the Human Rights Coalition in educating students and faculty about gay and lesbian issues in high schools and alternative schools in Jackson County, Oregon, and at Southern Oregon University. Served on a TV and radio panel discussing gay and lesbian issues as they pertain to youth. October 1991—October 1992. Spoke with health classes at Ashland High School regularly about sexual abuse. January 1992—March 1994. WOMEN'S SUPPORT: Co-facilitated a women's support group and helped plan discussion topics at the Women's Center in Gunnison, Colorado. 1990—1991. | Goals | My present goals are to work in the field of human services in Jackson and Josephine
Counties of southern Oregon. I would like to serve the community as a family advocate, working with adults,
families, children, and teens with diverse issues and difficulties. I would like to provide
education, counseling, and resources for those in need.
My long term goals entail setting up wilderness programs for children and adolescents and incorporating psychological treatment, survival and the earth, with psycho-spiritual development. I hope to teach respect for each other and the earth, trust in oneself, a willingness to try and to fail and to try again. I hope to instill in youth courage to face their fears and a willingness to listen to their own truths and trust in the development of who they are through their interactions with the outdoors. I hope to teach youth about the wilderness and respect for all creatures. I hope to combine the work of Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, Stephen Levine, the Diamond Heart School, object relations, and transpersonal psychology, as well as draw from diverse spiritual disciplines in this work. I hope to incorporate rock climbing and spelunking and run programs year round. |

BACKGROUND: I grew up in Tokyo, Japan, and attended private international schools with students from all over the world. Spanish and Japanese were required courses. I was also immersed in Italian culture, as my maternal family is Italian and still retains traditional ways. INTERESTS: I have participated in Elisabeth Kubler-Ross workshops and continue to study psychology in various forms. I enjoy learning and discovering new things. I love to explore nature and be with animals. I enjoy working and playing with children. I also love spelunking, backpacking, hiking, swimming, skiing. I love to be creative, to dance and sing with others. I love to wonder about the world, draw, and dream. |
